pregled literature

Effects of hydrokinesiotherapy in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Introduction: Fibromyalgia syndrome is a pain syndrome that significantly impacts the quality of live and reduces the ability to perform day-to-day activities. The cause and course of the disease are not well known, therefore the treatment is merely symptomatic. In order to relieve symptoms of the disease, hydrokinesiotherapy is often recommended to patients, as is offers many benefits. Purpose: Purpose of the thesis is to determine the effects of hydrokinesiotherapy in patients with fibromyalgia. Methods: In the thesis, we used a descriptive method with overview of literature. The search for articles was limited to the PubMed database, and articles included in the thesis were published between 2006 and 2015. Results: Ten randomized control trials were included in the overview of literature, based on the inclusion criteria. Seven studies compared an experimental group which performed hydrokinesiotherapy twice to three times a week, and a control group that did not perform any exercise but continued doing normal daily activities. In other three studies, scientists compared hydrokinesiotherapy to a same dry land workout and to an isometric dry land workout in home environment. Discussion and conclusion: The results have shown that hydrokinesiotherapy is an effective method for reducing chronic pain in fibromyalgia syndrome. The quality of sleep has also improved, while the anxiety and depression have reduced. Isometric workout in home environment has proven to be ineffective, and hydrokinesiotherapy was more effective in comparison to same dry land workout, as it offers more benefits for mental health and well-being. |
