diplomsko delo

Training courses for prevention and management of violence by the patients with mental disorders - comparison of Slovenian and foreign systems |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Introduction: Training courses for prevention and management of violence by the patients with mental disorder are key to ensure safety and quality of medical treatment. We are referring to guidelines followed by medical professionals when faced with violence, either as victims or as eyewitnesses. It is crucial to talk about violence, because not doing so negatively affect mental health and the quality of one’s work. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to get to know the training courses for prevention and management of violence by the patients with mental disorder. Methodology: We used the principles of descriptive research in this thesis. During literature review, we took into account only publicly available papers published between 2008 and 2019. In total, we used 32 Slovenian and foreign papers. For research, we used the remote access of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ljubljana, foreign databases, such as CINAHL, Medline, Pubmed, Sciencedirect, and the Slovenian database COBIB.SI. Results: Based on literature review, we conclude that the number of violent incidents in the health system is rising. The most frequent form is verbal violence. A working group tasked with helping victims of workplace violence has been established in Slovenia. Canada has a zero tolerance policy towards workplace violence. USA has a classification system which helps employees understand and react to violent outbursts. Discussion and conclusion: A society needs to make sure its members are aware that violence against medical professionals is not acceptable. For this reason, the the University Clinical Center Ljubljana and the University Psychiatric Clinic Ljubljana posted guidelines on how to prevent and react to violence in public areas. |
