Povzetek
Osmerozobi smrekov lubadar (Ips typographus) v Evropi in Aziji velja za enega najbolj ekonomsko škodljivih organizmov, saj povzroča veliko škodo v smrekovih gozdovih. Na njegov razvoj in izbiro habitata vplivajo številni abiotski dejavniki. Podrobne informacije o vplivu teh dejavnikov bodo pripomogle k izboljšanju načrtovanju upravljanja z gozdovi in zmanjšanju števila napadov na živa drevesa. Laboratorijski poskus smo izvedli pod različnimi temperaturnimi in svetlobnimi razmerami.

Influence of temparature and light on the habitat selection of the European spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus) |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
In Europe and Asia, European spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus) is considered to be one of the most economically harmful organism, causing significant damage in spruce forests. Its development and habitat selection are influenced by many abiotic factors. Detailed information on the impact of these factors will help to improve forest management planning and reduce the number of attacks on live trees. Our aim was to determine the influence of temperature and illumination of the bark surface on the habitat selection of I. typographus within the log itself. The laboratory experiment was carried out under various temperatures and light conditions. We searched for differences in the colonization of I. typographus between the illuminated and shaded side of the log. The logs were illuminated only from one side with different reflectors. The illumination with a halogen reflector gave a light and temperature gradient. In case of the illumination with a LED reflector the effect of temperature was excluded and only the light gradient was obtained. On the basis of the presence of tunnel systems, we determined the average number and proportion of I. typographus colonization. We found that a large proportion of I. typographus preferred to bore into the illuminated side of the log where the surface temperature of the bark was higher than on the shady side. In conditions where the temperature on the bark surface was the same throughout the log, we found that most I. typographus also preferred the illuminated side. We also found that the proportion of colonization slightly increased with increasing temperature on the bark surface, however, this result was not statistically significant. |
