(diplomsko delo)
Raziskovalna metodologija: V teoretičnem delu smo uporabili kvantitativno metodologijo raziskovanja in deskriptivno metodo dela. Predstavili smo najpogostejša urgentna stanja pri predšolskih otrocih obravnavanih v dežurni ambulanti. V raziskovalnem delu pa smo ugotavljali v kolikšni meri potrebujejo otroci urgentno obravnavo in kako postopajo starši, preden otroka pripeljejo v dežurno ambulanto.

Emergency conditions in pre-school children treated at an emergency clinic |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Theoretical Background: Preschool children from 2 to 6 years of age are at constant risk of acquiring acute injuries and illness. Parenting can therefore be vital in helping children in emergency situations. Parents must have sufficient knowledge to provide on-site medical care to their children.
Research Design and Methodology: In our study, we used descriptive research design with quantitative research method. To determine the number of hospitalised preschool children in our emergency department and the most common emergencies, a retrospective data analysis was performed using Isoz21 statistical suit. A questionnaire composed of 24 questions was designed and a total of 30 parents were included in the survey to assess parents' knowledge on how to act in emergency situations.
Results: In our study, we found that 83% of parents think they can handle their children in the event of acute injury and illness, but nevertheless 30% always seek help from the emergency department. Over a three-year period, a total of 1991 children from 2 to 6 years of age were treated.
Conclusions: Parental help represents a critical component of the emergency management as parents could be actively involved in the control of an emergency situation and mitigating further injury to children. Our study showed that parents frequently have a misconception and a lack of knowledge about the responding in an emergency situation; therefore, it is necessary to improve parental involvement in emergency situations. This can be achieved through lectures and courses, direct communication with medical personnel and brochures and leaflets that are available in healthcare institutions. |
