diplomsko delo

Priseljenke imajo drugačna kulturna pričakovanja glede zdravstvene nege/babiške obravnave v času materinstva, vendar kljub jezikovnim in kulturnim izzivom medicinske sestre/babice spretno, strokovno in individualno načrtujejo kulturno kompetentno zdravstveno nego/babiško obravnavo. Zagotavljanje kulturno občutljive in individualno prilagojene zdravstvene nege/babiške obravnave prinaša pozitivne izkušnje priseljenih žensk in dobre zdravstvene rezultate v materinstvu.

Sekundarni naslov: Maternity of immigrant women: an aspect of nurses/midwives' cultural competencies
Sekundarni povzetek: Introduction: Transcultural nursing requires nurses/midwives of cultural competence who have the ability to use knowledge, skills and experience of cultural diversity. Based on this, they provide quality nursing/midwifery care that is tailored to the cultural needs of women during their maternity. Purpose: The purpose of this diploma thesis is to present the challenges of immigrant women and the importance of the role of nurses/midwives' cultural competencies in providing quality nursing/midwifery care for immigrant women during their maternity. Method: In this undergraduate thesis we used the descriptive method with systematic review of local and foreign scientific literature. The literature was accessed through CINAHL, Medline and COBIB.SI databases. Articles used for analysis were created during the 2008-2018 timeframe. 15 suitable articles were used in the analysis. Their quality was evaluated with help of CASP tool. Results: The culture, creed or migration status of immigrant women influences maternal health needs. During pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period immigrant women face difficulties in communicating and subsequently accessing health services. Immigrant communication is essential for obtaining health information, making choices and decision-making skills. It influences the development of caring relationships with a nurse/midwife. Immigrant women have different cultural expectations regarding nursing/midwifery, but despite the communicational and cultural challenges, nurses/midwives plan their culturally competent nursing/midwifery skills professionally and individually. Discussion and conclusion: In transcultural nursing/midwifery care, nurses/midwives face cultural diversity with immigrant women. The needs and desires are diverse among women during maternity, but when the influence of cultures, traditions, and beliefs is present, health care for nurses/midwives is very challenging and poses a major health and cultural challenge. Aware of the importance of cultural competences, they take action and adapt nursing care to the communication and cultural needs of immigrant women. To this end, it is necessary to adjust the plan of care to take into account their cultural beliefs and values. Providing culturally sensitive and individually tailored nursing/midwifery care brings positive experiences for immigrant women and good maternal health outcomes.
