Povzetek

Nalezljive bolezni so najpogostejši vzrok umrljivosti.

Sekundarni povzetek: Infectious diseases are the most common cause of death. As the number of people in the world rises, so does the number of international travels, which make people increasingly more exposed to infectious diseases; this has consequences for the people, the countries and the economy. How people alter their behaviour in the epidemic response is crucial for monitoring the spread of the epidemic and preparing appropriate containment measures. The new infectious disease COVID-19, which is caused by the newly-discovered strain of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), was first detected in Slovenia on 4 March 2020 and causes the symptoms of fever, cough and the feeling of shortness of breath in those who are infected. The disease takes a milder course in around 80 percent of infected people, whereas 20 percent of them face a more severe form of the disease. Slovenia declared the epidemic on 12 March 2020, which triggered a large wave of posts in online media, most of which were negatively written articles affecting the level of concern of the people in Slovenia. On the one hand, the measures taken against the epidemic have shown themselves as effective since most people accepted the process of self-protection or altered their behaviour to contain the infectious disease COVID-19; on the other hand, the measures will bring negative economic and other consequences that will be difficult to undo. We certainly believe the time of the epidemic is not an appropriate time for the government to exploit the people’s distress and to uncontrollably spend money from the state budget to purchase inappropriate protective equipment. Taking measures is largely connected with responsibility since it is necessary to take into account the current state as well as to think about the state of the country and its citizens in the future. Our research into the people’s behaviour or into the alteration of their behaviour during the COVID-19 epidemic will potentially be very helpful when taking measures and shaping public health policies in the future.
