In the master's thesis "Assessment of the Solar Energy Potential in the Slovenska Bistrica Municipality and its Ethical Aspects", we focused on the field of energetics. We are aware that in life we are largely dependent on energy that we can obtain from a variety of sources. As experts warn us more and more about the negative consequences of the use of non-renewable resources (coal, oil, natural gas), we are forced to look for new ways and resources that will be able to supply us with energy in the future. An alternative option in this area is renewable energy sources (water, wind, biomass, solar energy), which are expected to cause less damage to the environment. The purpose of the master's thesis is to provide an assessment of the solar potential for the Municipality of Slovenska Bistrica, on the basis of which the Municipality of Slovenska Bistrica could act in future preparations of development plans in the field of energy supply. From a geographical point of view, we used descriptive and comparative methods during the creation of the master's thesis. With the mentioned approaches, we described the addressed area, renewable energy sources and their impact on the environment. With the method of classification, we tried to define the concept of solar potential, and with the method of compilation in light of our own findings, we summarized the findings, views, and conclusions of other authors who have already dealt with the selected topic in the past. In the empirical part, we made a detailed model of the surface of the Municipality of Slovenska Bistrica, identified suitable areas for the installation of solar panels, identified existing solar panels in the municipality, calculated the amount and duration of global solar radiation in target areas in Slovenska Bistrica, compared the amount and duration of global solar radiation in the target areas between the Standard Sky and Uniform Sky models and assessed the solar potential of the municipality in question. From the philosophical point of view, we derived from professional and scientific literature of the selected area in presenting theoretical starting points. In the normative part, dedicated to the ethical aspects of the use of solar energy, we used the method of conceptual analysis, and logic and critical analysis of arguments, and the application of established moral theories, and valid moral principles to concrete examples. Our goal was to evaluate the use of solar energy in terms of our potential moral obligations to the environment and the principles of intergenerational justice, and to provide possible solutions or possible measures in the field of solar energy use. |
