Sekundarni naslov: Motor and Physical Development of Male and Female Pupils Attending Secondary Schools with Italian as the Teaching Language and of the Bilingual Slovene-Hungarian Secondary School in Slovenia
Sekundarni povzetek: The aim of this master's thesis was to analyse the differences in motor effectiveness among male and female pupils attending Slovene secondary schools in the Coastal-Karst region and the Pomurska region, as well as pupils of the secondary schools with Italian as the language of instruction and the bilingual Slovene-Hungarian secondary school. We wanted to see whether there is a connection between motor effectiveness and belonging to an ethnic minority that could show an inequality in physical and motor development. The data was acquired for the period 1999–2018 from the database SLOfit at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Sport. The data included results of all 11 measurement tasks of the test battery for 102.159 pupils, both female and male. We have found out that both male and female pupils of Slovene secondary schools in the Coastal-Karst region are more motor effective and have a lower prevalence of being overweight than the male and female pupils of the secondary schools with Italian as the teaching language. Similarly, male and female pupils of Slovene secondary schools in the Pomurska region are also more motor effective and have a lower prevalence of being overweight than male and female pupils of the Slovene-Hungarian secondary school. As far as motor effectiveness is concerned, the male and female pupils of Slovene secondary schools in the Coastal-Karst region are better off than their peers in the Pomurska region. We have further found that male and female pupils of the secondary schools with Italian as the language of instruction achieve a higher level of motor effectiveness than male and female pupils of the bilingual Slovene-Hungarian secondary school. The aim of this master's thesis is to encourage professionals and local decision makers in the education field and of the local communities in the bilingual areas of Slovenia to enhance the quality of and access to physical education for all male and female pupils. That would result in an improvement of youths’ health that in the long term would improve the quality of life in these local environments.
