magistrsko delo
Izsledki so uporabni za načrtovanje izboljšav dela prvih posredovalcev glede izboljševanja odnosov z žrtvami nasilja v družini skladno z njihovimi pričakovanji in s spodbujanjem pripravljenosti žrtev prijaviti viktimizacijo.

Victims' satisfaction of domestic violence with first responders |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Although it remains largely hidden, domestic violence is one of the widespread social problems nowadays. As victims often do not report victimisation, official statistics cannot provide insight into the real extent of this type of crime. A review of the literature shows that the victims' willingness to report victimisation depends, among other, on the adequacy of the treatment received upon reporting. It is important to understand the victims' expectations from first responders and what kind of assistance they need in order to encourage them to report victimisation. Past research has mostly focused on analysing the relationship between police officers and victims of domestic violence, while there is a lack of studies regarding the quality of the overall victims’ treatment, which includes the work of other first responders. The purpose of the master's thesis is therefore to analyse the satisfaction of victims of domestic violence with work and treatment they received from various first responders (police, social work centres, health services, courts, NGOs and safe houses) in Slovenia. Accordingly, a survey was conducted among victims of domestic violence that were accommodated in safe houses in Slovenia. The results confirm the findings of previous research, which show that the treatment of victims by first responders has a significant impact on the victims' willingness to report violence to the authorities. Victims of domestic violence usually find it difficult to make a decision to report the victimisation, they often decide to do so only after a long period of victimisation. Victims are generally satisfied with the work of first responders; they are least satisfied with the work of the courts and most with the work of safe houses. The results also show that the victims' perception of police officers’ quality of work is related to the perceived competence, professionalism and understanding of police officers. This is one of the few researches in Slovenia, which examined victims’ perceptions on quality of work and treatment provided by various first respondents. The results are useful for planning improvements in the work of first responders to develop relationships with victims of domestic violence according to their expectations and to encourage victims' willingness to report victimisation. |
