magistrsko delo
Udeleženci so sodelovali v trimesečni intervenciji, katere namen je spodbuditi namerne spremembe v izbranih osebnostnih lastnostih. Spremembe v izraženosti osebnostnih lastnosti med začetkom in koncem semestra smo preverili s pomočjo Wilcoxovega testa pred značnih rangov.

Goals to change personality and volitional personality change among students |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
The aim of this Master's thesis was to investigate what goals for changing personality psychology students have and how they relate to their self-assessment of personality and the self-assessment of their personality by important others. We wanted to know if goals to change personality are greater when self-esteem, self-efficacy, or psychic well-being is lower. The purpose was also to determine the extent to which participants can achieve the desired changes in selected personality traits at the beginning of the semester through a short intervention and what effects does personality change have on well-being. Our sample included 61 students aged 19 to 24 who completed BFI, C-BFI, SPANE, SWLS, RPWB, SLCS-R and GSES questionnaires. The BFI questionnaire was also used to assess the personality of participants by a parent and friend. Participants participated in a three-month intervention aimed at encouraging volitional changes in selected personality traits. Changes in personality traits between the beginning and end of the semester were examined using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Multiple regression analysis was used to verify the effects of personality changes on well-being changes. We found that participants who are lower in extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and openness are more likely to increase that trait. If neuroticism is high, they want to decrease it. Change goals were stronger/lower for some personality traits when others rated a person's traits as low/high. Individuals with lower self-esteem want to change personality traits more, while more self-effective individuals have lower desire to change their personality. Those who are less satisfied with life have lower positive and higher negative emotionality, lower psychological well-being, and are more likely to change their personality traits. Our three-month intervention was effective only for those individuals who, at the beginning of the semester, wanted to increase in extraversion and decrease in neuroticism. The opposite effect was noted for participants who, at the beginning of the semester, wanted to increase in conscientiousness. They decreased and not increased that trait. Within subjective well-being we did not find that personality changes can significantly predict a greater increase in life satisfaction. However, we found that a greater increase in openness during the semester predicted a larger increase in psychological well-being during this period. Our research is the first of its kind in this environment and shows that individuals want to change their personality traits and that volitional personality change is possible. In addition, there is evidence of a positive effect of personality change on psychological well-being. |
