Sekundarni naslov: The role of nurse in monitoring and analysing organised exercise for the elderly with reduced mobility
Sekundarni povzetek: Many diseases, most likely to develop in old age, are associated with the impairment of the locomotor system and heart, kidney and liver deterioration. Body and mind response to certain stimuli is slower. General mobility is an important area, changing with old age because many degenerative diseases such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis occur in the locomotor system. The purpose of my thesis was to introduce the significance of organised exercise for seniors with reduced mobility (the residents of Home for the Elderly Ptuj) and to establish the influence of exercise on the quality of their lives. The seniors participated in the new activity programme in order to become more active, maintain their body weight and improve their wellbeing in general. 24 residents of Home for the Elderly Ptuj, aged from 73 to 87, participated in the research, 12 of which were actively participating in the organised exercise programme using fitness equipment. The research results have shown the improvement in general well-being and mood of those participating in organised exercise programme, and slight improvement in their motor ability and balance. The adverse symptoms, such as nausea, vertigo, breathing disorder, heart palpitation, joint and muscle ailments, were rarely present during the course of exercise. Flexibility improvement was ascertained in eight participants and balance improvement in two of the participants. The participants have gained improvement in their strength and movement coordination after the exercise programme has been finished. The acquired results confirm that organised exercises have positive effects on the improvement of physical ability and consequently on the quality of lives of the elderly. Individual authors stated that regular physical activity has positive effects on preventing or decreasing the risks of individual disease development in old age. Active and vital individuals should represent the quality of life of the elderly.
