Attitude and barriers of nursing care students towards research |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Introduction: Nursing research represents a guide for safe and quality clinical practice. Research shows that nursing students' attitudes towards research are positive, but they face many barriers when conducting research. The aim of the study was to explore nursing students' attitude towards research and their perception of research barriers.
Methods: A cross-sectional research using quantitative research methodology was conducted. Data were gathered using two survey questionnaires and a convenience sample of nursing students (n = 219). Data analysis was carried out using the IBM SPSS 23.0 software, descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results: In average, 80% of surveyed nursing students had positive attitudes towards research (M = 136.93, SD = 30.88; p < 0.001). Statistically significant difference was found between attitude towards research and the year (p < 0.001) and degree of study (p < 0,001). Students assessed that the highest barrier for conducting research was the research process complexity (M = 3.95, SD = 0.68) and environmental barriers (M = 3.53, SD = 0.59). There were no significant differences between perception of research barriers and previous research experiences (p = 0.098). There was also statistically significant negative correlation between attitude towards research and the perception of research barriers (rs(219) = -0.554, p < 0.001).
Discussion and conclusion: Positive attitudes towards research are a fundamental component of the utilization of evidence-based practice. Nursing students' attitude towards research should be continuously maintained and upgraded. Furthermore, students should be equipped with knowledge and skills to reduce the research barriers. |
