Sekundarni naslov: The Psychological Preparation of the Slovenian Armed Forces Members for the Participation in International Operations and Missions
Sekundarni povzetek: International operations and missions (IOM) are an increasingly common activity involving international organizations that want to maintain order and peace in international crisis areas and, consequently, achieve their strategic goals and ensure the security of their members. This also means that members have to contribute soldiers of their armed forces where their families are also indirectly involved. The Slovenian Army has been active in international operations and missions since 1997, and later, when it became a member of several international organizations, its obligations and contributions to international security and peace increased. The participation of soldiers in the IOM represents unique challenges and stress for them as well as for their families. Participants have to master and train many skills with new forms of military operations, and in addition to the complexity of a soldier's participation in the IOM, this presents additional psychological and not only military challenges; if the participant wants to perform his duties well, he has to be prepared physically, militarily, as well as mentally. Since both, the SAF members and their families are human beings in whom psychological processes take place, it is important that attention is also paid to psychological aspects, preparation and care in connection with the IOM. For the optimal functioning of participants in the IOM, their mental readiness is crucial, as well as the mental readiness and care of their families, as concern for their well-being also affects the life and work of the participant. The thesis presents a broader aspect of the IOM, the military psychology and its history, and the regulation of psychological activity in the SAF. The stress and emotional processes that take place in a participant in connection with the IOM and in his relatives and the course of psychological preparation and care of members of the Slovenian Armed Forces before, during and after arrival from the IOM and their families in these phases of IOM are also presented in more detail. It has been established that the basic psychological preparations of commanders and soldiers are the same, but the commanders are provided with the advice of an SAF psychologist on their request, for better management, climate in the unit and psychological readiness of the unit to go to IOM. It was also established that the SAF also provides sufficient intensive and in-depth psychological preparation for family members in connection with the deployment of their member to the IOM, and that soldiers at the IOM are provided with sufficient psychological support in the form of counseling. It would make sense to use audio and video communication resources to set up support groups for the families of soldiers who are at the IOM and psychological counseling for soldiers who are at the IOM.
