Povzetek

Cilj diplomske naloge je bil ovrednotiti pojavnost in resnost grizenja repov v rejah prašičev v Sloveniji, pridobiti mnenje in izkušnje rejcev o pomembnosti različnih dejavnikov tveganja za pojav grizenja repov ter ovrednotiti učinkovitost različnih obogatitvenih materialov pri preprečevanju grizenja repov. Podatke smo pridobili s pomočjo anketnega vprašalnika. V raziskavi je sodelovalo 23 rejcev. V slovenskih rejah se z grizenjem repov srečuje približno tri četrtine prašičerejcev. Grizenje repov se večinoma pojavlja v manjšem obsegu (1-5%), v 10% rej pa poročajo o 50-90% poškodovanosti repov. Rejci grizenje repov na splošno smatrajo za manj resen problem. Z namenom preprečevanja tega pojava izvajajo različne preventivne aktivnosti, kot je na primer prilagajanje krme, klime in gostote naselitve ter dodajanje obogatitvenih materialov. Slednje uporablja kar 90% rejcev, najpogosteje verige in žoge. Rejci so večini potencialih dejavnikov tveganja pripisali visoko pomembnost. Kot najpomembnejše so sicer ocenili dejavnike, povezane s kakovostjo zraka, zdravjem živali in genetsko zasnovo, le nekoliko manj pomembne pa dejavnike, povezane s krmljenjem, lastnostmi boksa in obogatitvijo. Med različnimi materiali/predmeti za obogatitev so rejci kot najbolj učinkovite pri preprečevanju grizenja repov ocenili slamo in seno, a teh materialov v svojih rejah večinoma ne uporabljajo. Raziskava je pokazala, da se rejci zavedajo pomena zagotavljanja ustreznega rejskega okolja pri preprečevanju grizenja repov pri prašičih.

Sekundarni povzetek: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the incidence and severity of tail biting on pig farms in Slovenia, to obtain the opinion and experiences of pig breeders on the importance of different risk factors and to assess the effectiveness of different enrichments in preventing tail biting. The data were obtained by means of a questionnaire. In total, 23 pig breeders participated in the study. In Slovenian pig breeding, about three quarters of farmers reported the problem of tail biting in pigs. It mostly occurs to a lesser extent (1-5%), and about 10% of breeders reported 50-90% of damaged tails. Breeders generally consider tail biting to be a less serious problem. Breeders carry out various activities in order to prevent tail biting, such as adapting ration, climate conditions or stocking density and addition of enrichments. The latter is used by as many as 90% of breeders. Chains and balls are most commonly used. Breeders are aware of many risk factors, as they attributed high importance to the majority of potential tail biting triggers. The highest scores were given to factors related to air quality, health of animals and genetics, only slightly lower importance was attributed to factors related to feeding, pen characteristics and enrichment. Among various enrichments, straw and hay were rated as the most effective in preventing tail biting. However, those materials are rarely used in their farms. According to our results, breeders are aware of the importance of providing appropriate breeding environment to prevent tail biting in pigs.
