Metode: V zaključnem delu smo uporabili sistematični pregled znanstvene in strokovne literature, v angleškem in slovenskem jeziku. Iskali smo v naslednjih podatkovnih bazah: CINAHL, PubMed, Web of Science in ScienceDirect.

Competence of nurses for basic life support procedures |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Introduction: Nurses are the ones who spend the most time with the patient. Therefore, they are also expected to identify a patient in cardiac arrest in time, activate additional help, and perform basic resuscitation procedures until the arrival of additional help. This thesis aims to investigate the competence of nurses to perform basic resuscitation procedures.
Methods: In the final part, we used a systematic review of scientific and professional literature in English and Slovenian. We searched the following databases: CINAHL, PubMed, Web of Science and ScienceDirect. The hits were analysed and synthesised and included in the theoretical part of our thesis. We used the Joanna Briggs Institutes (JBI) assessment tool to evaluate the articles. We synthesised the data based on the thematic theoretical framework.
Results: Nine articles or studies based on quantitative, qualitative and mixed methodology were included in the analysis. It was found that nurses have the knowledge and skills to perform basic resuscitation procedures, but due to their different job roles, they deal with cardiac arrest differently, some more often and others a little less. The review found that nurses know basic resuscitation procedures, but the depth of compressions is not deep enough, and the rate of compressions is too fast.
Discussion and conclusion: It is imperative that nurses know basic resuscitation procedures, recognise cardiac arrest and take immediate action. Being informed and taking the correct and immediate action in a person in cardiac arrest is of paramount importance. Courses on basic resuscitation procedures allow us to test ourselves. The initial assessment of the condition and recognition of the signs of cardiac arrest is very important for further management and treatment outcome and the neurological assessment of the patient's condition. |
