magistrsko delo

Optimization of the pharmaceutical compound extraction process |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
In the master thesis we present the extraction of active pharmaceutical ingredients from aqueous to organic phase using extraction-separation centrifuges. We have performed a simulation of the industrial extraction process, which comprises six extraction-separation centrifuges (Westfalia). The simulation was performed using Aspen Plus based on data from the production process. We simulated the currently installed centrifuge layout (1-1-1-1-1) and performed simulations of four alternative layouts. The results show that the simulation results of the current process layout are consistent with the results of the industrial installation. Therefore, we can conclude that the results of the alternative layouts are also consistent. We have developed mathematical models for predicting the extraction efficiency of the studied centrifuge layouts. The polynomial mathematical models for evaluating the efficiency of the individual layout exhibit high goodness-of-fit (R2 0.98). The models were used to optimize the extraction process. The optimization results indicate that the alternative centrifuge layout (2-1-1-1) centrifuge could be as efficient as the current one. This layout would require 750 L/h higher flow rate of organic solvent; however, the load on the centrifuges in the first stage would be greatly reduced. |
