magistrsko delo
Povzetek
Raziskovanje strahu pred kriminaliteto se je začelo že v 60-letih dvajsetega stoletja in vse od takrat je ena izmed bolj perečih tem na področju kriminologije in tudi drugih družboslovnih ved.

Using the Jackson questionnaire to measure fear of crime in young adults |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
In the 1960s, researchers began exploring the fear of crime and since then it has become one of the more pressing topics in the field of criminology and other social sciences. It is a complex phenomenon for which there is still no exact definition or uniform measurement method. The thesis focuses on the operationalization of the fear of crime and its measurement. Many critiques note that research of this topic uses only one indicator, therefore, the Jackson questionnaire was used to measure fear of crime, as it includes several indicators and constructs associated with fear of crime. We collected the data in the period from the 28th of July 2020 until the 28th of October 2020 from participants aged between 15 and 29. The purpose of our master's thesis was to examine the measurement characteristics of the Jackson questionnaire. Based on factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha, it was found that the questionnaire was valid and reliable, meaning it can be used to measure fear of crime. Moreover, the Jackson questionnaire contains several indicators and separates between personal and property crimes and distinguishes between concern and the likelihood that a certain offense would have happened to an individual. Our research has found that there is a coherence between the perception of the risk of a criminal offense and the perception of the consequences for the offense and concern for the offense. We also checked if there are differences between people who have already been victimized and people who have not yet been victimized, mostly in their sense of control and their concern that they will be subject to a criminal offense. Our research has found that differences exist only in the people's sense of control of them being subject to a criminal offense. |
