diplomsko delo visokošolskega strokovnega študijskega programa I. stopnje

Advanced functionalization of fibres |

The topic of the diploma work was the functionalization of cotton and polyester fabrics with selected substrates, which include, inter alia, nanoparticles to enhance hydrophobic and fire-retardant properties of textiles in an environmentally friendly and economical manner.
To achieve hydrophobicity on cotton and polyester, fibers were treated with silica, hexane, and titanium dioxide.
Coatings of silica, sodium bromide, lysine, and titanium dioxide were used for achieving fire-retardant properties on cotton, while on polyester, coatings made of lysine and titanium dioxide were incorporated. Listed chemicals were used either individually or in combination and applied in 1-2 layers on the surface of the textile.
The performance of the deposits was tested with gravimetric analysis, by observing how much of the coating stayed on the fabric after drying it; goniometry, where contact angles between drops of water and treated surfaces of fabric were observed and based on that fabric's wettability was defined; simple preliminary fire-retardant test, where the speed of burning and length of burnt out part of the sample was observed. ATR-FTIR technique was conducted as well, with which the presence of functional groups and bonds on treated fabrics that would indicate special functions of the textile, were identified.
The obtained results were presented in the thesis, they were compared with each other and the findings were highlighted based on them.
