dan.

Sekundarni naslov: Nutrition of breastfeeding mothers in Northeastern Slovenia
Sekundarni povzetek: Introduction: A balanced diet for breastfeeding mothers provides adequate amounts of the nutrients needed to maintain health and has important implications for the growth, development and health of children now and in the future. During breastfeeding, energy requirements increase by 500 kcal/day. The aim of this thesis is to study the diet of breastfeeding mothers in north-eastern Slovenia. Methods: A qualitative methodology to determine the dietary intake of breastfeeding mothers in north-eastern Slovenia was used. Used was a three-day food diary method. The data were further processed with help of the OPKP web tool (which analysed selected nutrients) and Office Excel 2010 and IBM SPSS. Thirty breastfeeding mothers, up to four months postpartum, participated. Results: The majority (90 %) of breastfeeding mothers consumed a normal mixed diet. The mean BMI of the breastfeeding mothers was 26.3 kg/m2. The majority (83.3%) did not meet the recommended energy intake. This was on average 2253.1 kcal/day. They also do not cover the macronutrient requirements as the average values are slightly below the recommendations (protein 98,2 %, fat 91,5 %, carbohydrate 85,4 % of the recommended daily intake). Slightly lower average values than recommended were recorded for some micronutrients. Discussion and Conclusion: Diet is very individual and varied from day to day. Given the lower than recommended intakes of macronutrients and micronutrients, mothers should be made aware of the appropriate intake and importance of nutrients during breastfeeding.
