The area of sustainable development nowadays at the global level has become one of the
most topical and important areas for current and all future generations. This is confirmed by
a lot of researches, huge public interest (including political) and constant warnings about the
importance of this area by many influential people around the world.
In the doctoral dissertation, we dealt with sustainable supply chains in logistics and non-logistics micro, small, medium and large enterprises (especially in relation with organizational
culture, normative commitment and the seventeen goals of sustainable development from
the United Nations). At the same time, we also researched the orientation and focus of studies
in the field of logistics and supply chains on priority areas of sustainable development. Based
on theoretical findings and existing research, we formulated four main hypotheses and ten
supporting hypotheses.
Sustainability orientation and focus in logistics and supply chains on priority areas of
sustainable development were investigated with the help of 116 studies published in 73
international journals between 2010 and 2020 in the Web of Science and/or Scopus. In doing
so, we considered all three dimensions of sustainable development and also all seventeen
sustainable development goals from the United Nations. Along with the aforementioned, we
also used the VOSviewer program to perform various bibliometric analyzes.
In doctoral dissertation, we performed international research on several continents with the
help of a survey questionnaire. Employees from enterprises located in 34 different developed
countries were mostly included in the research. The questionnaire was sent directly to 528
enterprises and 1,576 employees. 516 employees responded to the questionnaire. Based on
the results obtained and the statistical methods used, e.g. factor analysis, linear regression
analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient, etc., we found that organizational culture and
normative commitment have a statistically significant impact on sustainable development in
supply chains. We also found that organizational culture has a statistically significant impact
on normative commitment. Based on the results of the research with an emphasis on
statistically significant direct impacts, we designed a model of sustainable supply chain
development that is considering the impact of organizational culture and normative
commitment on sustainable development in supply chains. In doing so, we considered the
logistical aspect, as is also specifically emphasized in the assumptions and limitations of the
doctoral dissertation. The developed model enables enterprises to improve the sustainable
development of their supply chains by considering the impact of organizational culture and
normative commitment. In the doctoral dissertation, we also presented the method of using
the developed model in practice/enterprises.
In the doctoral dissertation, we confirmed all four main hypotheses as well as all ten
supporting hypotheses, thus achieving a contribution to the expert and scientific literature in
the field of research. We have devised a concept (a model development) to improve
sustainable supply chains, which also allows for a better future for the current and all future
generations. At the same time, the doctoral dissertation provides excellent starting points for
further researches in the field of logistics, supply chains, sustainable development,
organizational culture and normative commitment. |
