Zaradi okvare sluha so gluhi in naglušni s strani slišečih pogosto diskriminirani, kar jim povzroča občutek neenakosti in socialne izključenosti. Velik problem jim predstavlja komunikacijska prepreka, saj zaradi oteženega navezovanja stikov pogosto občutijo družbeno izključenost in izolacijo. Izbrani in opisani so trije najpomembnejši mehanizmi.

Sekundarni naslov: Stigmatization of the deaf and hard of hearing
Sekundarni povzetek: Deaf and heard of hearing people face many difficulties in life because of their disability. Hearing impairment changes the life of both the person who is deaf or hard of hearing. It also changes life of their family, as it takes a lot of learning, motivation and adjustment to integrate the person with hearing impairment into society as successfully as possible. Deaf and hard of hearing people are often discriminated against by hearing people because of their hearing impairment, leading to feelings of inequality and social exclusion. In many cases deaf and hard of hearing people are not recognised as having disability, which increases their stigmatisation. Communication barriers are a major problem for them, as they often experience social exclusion and isolation due to difficulties in making contact. The theoretical part defines basic concepts to facilitate understanding of the topic. The following section describes the importance of social control mechanisms, which are crucial for successful integration into society. The three most important mechanisms are selected and described. As stigma is present in all areas of the lives of deaf and hard of hearing people, some of the areas where it is most pronounced are described. The theoretical part concludes with a description of the consequences of discrimination and social exclusion, which apply to the deaf population as well as to the general population. In order to analyse the topic in more detail and to test the hypotheses, a survey was developed in the empirical part of the thesis, which was aimed exclusively at the deaf and hard of hearing population. The findings of the empirical work confirmed discrimination against deaf and heard of hearing, particularly in the area of job search. Finally, a discussion is written based on the theory and the results of the survey. In the conclusion, a critique of the thesis and recommendations for further research are given.
