Measurements and spatial modelling of rainfall erosivity as a soil erosion factor |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Soil erosion threatens the ecological functions of soil and water ecosystems. Today, in the time of changing climate factors and increased economic pressures on land use, the early identification of the endangered areas on the basis of erosion factor quantification is of extraordinary importance. The doctoral dissertation deals with rainfall erosivity as the climate factor of soil erosion, which is defined in the widely used (R)USLE procedure for soil loss prediction. As a rule, the rainfall erosivity calculation is based on empirical relationships which are derived for individual climate regions. On the basis of performed rainfall intensity and raindrop size distribution measurements, we derived exponential relationships between the rainfall kinetic energy and the rainfall intensity for the submediterranean, subalpine and moderate continental climate regions of Slovenia, to assist the rainfall erosivity assessment. We compared the results of the derived relationships with those of the relationships proposed by other authors, which enabled us to examine the derived relationships within global and regional (Mediterranean) contexts. Furthermore, we performed surface runoff and soil loss measurements on experimental plots that were set up on different land use locations, to determine the significance of maximum rainfall intensities of different duration, declared as crucial for soil loss estimation along with the rainfall kinetic energy. From the previously derived relationships for rainfall kinetic energy calculation and the rainfall intensity data obtained from the pluviographic network of the Environmental Agency of the Republic of Slovenia we determined the rainfall erosivity factor and also its seasonal distribution for 31 locations in Slovenia distributed across the three climate regions of Slovenia. Finally, using spatial interpolation techniques we created a preliminary map of spatial distribution of rainfall erosivity in Slovenia. |
