Development of new information-communication technologies (ICTs) had an important influence on social developments. Changes can be felt in all areas of our lives, even in the schools. The computer has become an indispensable part of the school everyday, because it allows new forms and methods of work for pupils and teachers, and so substantially contribute to the quality and effectiveness of teaching.
In my diploma I will focus on computer use in mathematics lessons. In the teoretical part I will present a historical overview of computer use in education, the areas of computer use in education, what are the effects of computer technology in teaching and learning of children, the possibilities of computer use in school and how should be computer workplace adjusted to children that is not undesirable consequences (incorrect posture, sensory and body burden). I will quote the advantages and disadvantages of using computer in class, describe and analyze some Slovenian math educational programs and introduced the process of manufacturing a computer program.
Since pupils like to work with a computer and are often fed up with their monotonous lessons, I designed a computer educational program »Become a master of mathematics« in wish to encourage their interest in mathematics content. The program is presented in the empirical part of diploma. The program allows pupils to consolidate the mathematical content and training certain skills to automatism in an interesting and attractive way. Through a survey, which I conducted among pupils and teachers, I tried to find out the strengths and weaknesses of the program. Based on the research, I also created the potential directions of development of a computer program, which could further increase its practical value. |
