The society, a part of which we are, is an ever changing structure. The changes of this structure depend on many different factors. The contemporary age group structure in Slovenia is based on a wider group of elderly population which is expected to grow in the future as well (as it has in the past years). The changes in the society’s age group structure lead to a variety of other changes, adaptations, different views. The contemporary society has been witnessing not only the age group changes but also the continuous progress in all scientific fields for years. There are many new inventions, innovations, new technologies, and similar. The important change for us is the appearance of a new group of people, of people eager to gain knowledge. These are the adult or elderly people who did not have the chance to know the now existing information and communications technology (ICT) during their growing up.
Adult education and trainings have a long and diverse history in foreign countries as well as in Slovenia. There are growing numbers of different institutions involved in adult education, and there are also more and more fields of adult education. The adult trainings in the field of information and communications technology are a novelty, mostly due to the later and ongoing development of these technologies and also due to later interest of adults in this field. Additionally, we can talk about the beginnings of the contemporary massive expansion of information and communications technology only since the late eighties and the nineties. But we have to make a step forward from the massive expansion to the education about it.
The diploma paper – on the basis of the existent adult trainings in the field of ICT – defines the most suitable training factors, ranging from suitable teaching aids and the importance of appropriate space to proper teaching methods and strategies. It also explains the importance of a “proper” lecturer personality. The factors are – mostly due to education and age group specificity – quite different from the factors used in schools or in other adult trainings. |
