In the thesis I described the characteristics of attachment parenting. This is a way of education, which promotes breast-feeding, baby carrying, responding to his crying, joint sleeping, positive discipline and maintaining balance in the family. In the empirical part I presented the results of a research, which was used to find out what positions and educational principles have parents at the early stage and to what extent the educational practices base on principles of attachment parenting. The results were obtained with a questionnaire which was answered by 77 parents of children in the first age period. Many children were breastfed less than 6 months. As the most common reason for cessation of breastfeeding the parents contend that the mother did not have enough milk or the child did not want to suck any longer. The chi-square test calculation confirms that the child's mother's education affects the duration of breastfeeding – mothers with a higher education breastfeed longer. Parents often opt for sleeping with the child, only a quarter of them do not practice that. Unfortunately a half of the questioned parents have sometimes intentionally left the baby crying for a longer time, because they do not want to spoil the child or they believe that the baby can enforce his will with crying. Based on the obtained results I can estimate that a quarter of all questioned parents support the principles of attachment parenting, while others support it only partially or not at all. |
