Sekundarni povzetek:	The mask occurs in many cultures throughout the world, from prehistory onwards. It represents a very extensive topic, which is here restricted to the mask as a medium for contact with the other world, but some attention is also given to the mask as persona or a social mask, which helps the individual to face this world. Regarding the mask as a medium used in rituals and the theatre, the dissertation concentrates on primitive masks, especially those in Greek tragedy, which marked the beginning of the development of the theatre in Western culture. Similarities with tragedy are also sought in some polytheistic cultures. The social mask or persona is the “face” that we show to others and that screens our true self. According to Jung, shaping a healthy persona plays an important role in the development of the individual. The author is interested in the contrast regarding the understanding of oneself and consequently of one’s mask between ancient Greek collective society and our contemporary, highly individualistically oriented society. She is especially interested in the use of mask as a tool for research of individual's relation towards himself, towards others and society. The latter served also as the point of departure for exploration within pedagogical process.

Povzetek (ePrints):	Maska se pojavlja v mnogih kulturah širom sveta že od prazgodovine naprej. Je zelo obširna tema, zato sem se omejila na masko kot medij za stik z drugimi svetovi, dotaknila pa sem se tudi maske kot persone ali socialne maske, ki posamezniku pomaga pri soočanju s tem svetom. V okviru problematike maske kot medija pri ritualih in v gledališču se pričujoče diplomsko delo posveča tako primitivnim maskam kot tudi vlogi maske v starogrški tragediji, ki je pomenila začetek razvoja gledališča v naši zahodni kulturi. Podobnosti s tragedijo iščem tudi v nekaterih politeističnih kulturah. Socialna maska ali persona je »obraz«, ki ga kažemo drugim in zastira naš pravi jaz. V skladu s teorijo Carla G. Junga igra izoblikovanje zdrave persone pomembno vlogo pri razvoju posameznika. Zanima me kontrast pri dojemanju sebe in posledično maske v starogrški kolektivni in novodobni, izrazito individualistično usmerjeni družbi. S posebnim zanimanjem sem se lotila tudi uporabe maske kot »orodja« za raziskovanje posameznika v odnosu do samega sebe, do drugih in družbe; slednje je bilo tudi izhodišče za raziskovanje znotraj pedagoškega procesa.
