The present work focuses on high strength concrete, presenting its advantages and disadvantages, its mechanical properties and how its composition is different from that of concrete with conventional strength. On the ground of prices for constituents of concrete mix, the final price of cubic metre of both concretes is calculated, considering the composition of selected mixes. It was established that concrete with three times higher strength spent aproximately two times more. To calculate the bearing capacity of polygonal cross section, software, developed by Visual Basic for application using worksheets of Microsoft Excel, was adjusted and used. To calculate the bearing capacity of polygonal cross section, programme pack that was developed in computer programme Microsoft Excel was adjusted and used. Also programme for calculation of bearing capacity of circular cross section was developed. The latter includes calculating of simple index, macro commands and code, written in Visual Basic. It is possible to choose dimensions of the cross section, compressive strength of concrete, quantity and kind of reinforcement. Changes of flexure and axial bearing capacity were observed with regard to compressive strength of concrete or quantity of reinforcement. Taking into account its strength, high- strength concrete proved to be suitable for construction elements in compression or elements that are exposed to extreme environmental conditions, which destroy structure of concrete.
