In diploma thesis I was focused on two general concepts of mask, which I described through historical development of theatre and film and discovered that in both of them the most obvious was the change of the function of the mask. In theatre this was conditioned mainly by different cultures, symbolic representation and location of performance; in film it was conditioned by technological developments and by the need for visual pleasure.
My major inspiration through work was historical make-up, which characteristics I described in theoretical part, with visual examples of actresses in films with historical themes. First I summarized fundamental features of make-up and face paintings from prehistoric times to the 19th century. During this time, major changes were occurring slowly, throughout centuries, and their primary principle was at first in symbolic meanings and then in how to look younger and attractive. (Corson, 1972). The spiritual or social leaders always dictated the main image, and others more or less acted in accordance with it. (Rudolf, 1955).
Later on I also described actresses who were, and still are make-up trendsetters in 20th and 21st century, when major changes in appearance were occurring faster. In the 20th century we could speak about changes through decades, but in modern times, trends are being created even faster.
I used theoretical knowledge and experiences in the make-up field that I gained in the last year, when I carried out two school lessons on the theme of face painting in the Primary school Col. The response of the pupils was very positive, they were relaxed while painting, they understood the technique complexion, face proportions and shapes. The lesson was a good prove that the task of face painting can be one of the equal possibilities on how to learn about art problems that are dealt with during the art lessons.

V teoretičnem delu sem ga opisovala s primeri podob igralk v filmih z zgodovinsko tematiko, kjer sem povzemala bistvene značilnosti ličenja in poslikav obraza od prazgodovine do konca 19. stoletja.
