Sekundarni povzetek: The diploma begins with Rudyard Kipling's biography and bibliography, the author of The Jungle Book. Kipling is the youngest laureate of The Nobel Prize (he received it when he was 42 years old). In the continuation follows a summary of the speech at the handover of the award, as well as the presentations of other Nobel Prize laureates for literature, who wrote youth literature. Data, about the availability of Kipling’s works in the Ljubljana City Library (Mestna knjižnica Ljubljana) and the National and University Library (NUK), is presented. Curriculum for Slovene and currently accessible readings for elementary school, where Kipling was mentioned as the author and sugested to teachers for coverage in primary school, is reviwed. Curriculum is also reviewed for mention of the other Nobel prize laureates, who wrote youth literature. In the chapter Literary comparison the qualitative data provided a comparison between the original, The Jungle Book, by Rudyard Kipling, and adaptations in the form of a picture book, a film and a puppet show. Works have been compared on the basis of the following elements: literary genres, the extent of literature, characters, literary time, literary space, literary matter, theme, motif, the addressee and the storyteller. Chapter Summary and conclusions contains summary of qualitative research. The possibilities of usage of the adaptations for teaching literature is discussed in the chapter Use of the adaptations in the classroom.. This is based on a study of Marjana Kobe. In Conclusion hypothesis are accepted or declined.

Povzetek (ePrints): Diplomska naloga se pričenja z življenjepisom in bibliografijo avtorja Knjige o džungli, Rudyardom Kiplingom (1865 – 1936). Kipling je najmlajši nagrajenec, ki je prejel Nobelovo nagrado (pri svojih 42. letih). V nadaljevanju sledi povzetek govora pri predaji nagrade in predstavitev ostalih Nobelovih nagrajencev za književnost, ki so ustvarjali mladinsko književnost. Podani so podatki, v kolikšni meri so Kiplinglova dela dosegljiva v Mestni knjižnici Ljubljana ter Narodni in univerzitetni knjižnici. Pregledan je bil prenovljen Učni načrt za slovenščino, ali se kje omenja obravnavane Nobelove nagrajence. V dosegljivih in aktualnih berilih za osnovno šolo, je bilo preverjeno, ali je kje omenjen Kipling kot avtor ter predlagan učiteljem za obravnavo pri pouku književnosti v osnovni šoli. V poglavju Književna primerjava so kvalitativno podani podatki primerjave med izvirnikom, Knjiga o džungli, Rudyarda Kiplinga, ter priredbami v obliki slikanice, filma ter lutkovne predstave. Dela so bila primerjana na podlagi naslednjih elementov: književna vrsta, književna zvrst, obseg, književna oseba, književni čas, književni prostor, snov, tema, motiv, naslovnik ter pripovedovalec. Poglavje Povzetki in ugotovitve vsebuje povzetek kvalitativne raziskave ter do kakšnih ugotovitev sem prišla. V poglavju Obravnava priredb v razredu razpravljam o priredbah ter ali se lahko učitelj poslužuje priredb klasičnih del pri književnem pouku, kot obogatitev književnega pouka oz. kot nadomestilo klasičnega dela, na podlagi teorije Marjane Kobe o priredbah, ki jo je podala v Pogledi na mladinsko književnost leta 1987. V zaključku so potrjene oz. ovržene hipoteze.
