Sekundarni jezik: Angleški jezik
Sekundarni naslov: Integration of Roma students into primary school
Sekundarni povzetek: The Roma are an ethnic group, which was often faced with oppression, persecution, ridicule and exclusion through history. Even nowadays due to different culture and way of life, the Roma are often faced with exclusion in education, employment, health and housing. Over the last years with taking Roma Act and National Programme for Roma the situation is improving, however there are still a lot of questions that require discussion. One particular area that needs to be addressed is the education of Roma children. Their cultural differences, lack of understanding the language, inconsistency of primary and secundary socialization, lower socio-economic status, prejudice and discrimination against majority of population poses problems in educating children. These problems sometimes seem unsolvable. Researches show a significant loss of Roma students from primary school as a result of simultaneous impact of different factors, such as discriminatory attitude of educational authorities, a low socio-economical standard of parents, poverty, social exclusion of parents, etc. Roma children, when entering school, have to face with problems and new cultural environment. Teachers have to face similar problems when working with them. Guidelines for work with Roma students are written in a general way so teachers are not provided with specific advice or instruction on how to handle everyday school situations. The adaptation for standards to Roma children is often emphasized, but there is no adaptation/focus on their skills and understanding of Roma culture and language. In the theoretical part the diploma thesis shows the situation of the Roma community in Slovenia and an overview of the education of Roma children in the history and today. At the end I mention the work with foreign students and preparing individualized assistance projects and individual programs for students with learning disabilities. The empirical part shows a case study of integration of three Roma children, who are also foreign students in Slovenian primary school.

V teoretičnem delu naloga prikazuje položaj romske skupnosti v Sloveniji ter pregled vzgoje in izobraževanja romskih otrok v zgodovini in danes.
