Sekundarni naslov: Articulation and nasal resonance in speech in children with orofacial clefts
Sekundarni povzetek: The aim of the thesis was to study the effect of orofacial clefts on speech and resonance of speech. In the context of student knowledge, we also dealt with the possible causes of orofacial clefts. The research included all children with cleft palate or cleft lip with cleft palate between the ages of four and twelve, who were examined by maxillofacial surgeon at the Departement of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery of University Medical Centre in Ljubljana from November 2012 till February 2013. There were 27 children. We evaluated the quality of their articulation and measured nasalization in speech – we performed nasometry. Parents of these children completed a questionnaire in which they provided information about the history of child’s development, his/her diseases, about the development of child's speech, potential speech therapy and time of palatoplastics. Hypotheses were set up on the basis of the study of literature and the opinions and knowledge of experts in this field, with whom I have been meeting during the period of researching. The research results indicate that pre-school children have most difficulties with articulation and resonance, and that the problems reduce directly proportional with the age of the child. Research has shown us that the greatest percentage of children born with clefts is in the northeast part of Slovenia. We found that besides cleft, the difficulty with articulation and hypernasality does not affect any other factor. Unfortunately, we did not come to more concrete conclusions, because the sample was relatively small and the age range of the children too large. But there are provided frameworks for further exploration of speech and resonance in speech of children with clefts. There are also made a few theories for in-depth study of the particular issue.

Ocenjevali smo kvaliteto njihove artikulacije in izmerili nazaliteto v govoru - naredili nazometrijo. Njihovi starši so reševali vprašalnik, v katerem so podajali informacije o zgodovini razvoja otroka, njegovih boleznih, o razvoju otrokovega govora, morebitni logopedski terapiji in času palatoplastike.
