Sekundarni povzetek: Child comes across written language on every step within his closer and wider environment. Preschool period is also called the emergent literacy period with which the process of spontaneous developing of skills and knowledge is emphasized. The skills are developed in a written language environment and are previous to formal reading and writing. The development of literacy in this period is under an important influence of the environment which is to a child primarily his family. Researches confirm a link between the skills with which children enter school and their later learning success. In this diploma thesis we highlight the most important elements of emergent literacy and determine their influence on reading and writing. Skills and knowledge with the highest predicting value on later reading and writing success are phonological awareness, language skills, knowledge of print and family socioeconomic status. By developing literacy in the preschool period we contribute to an easier learning of reading an writing. That is why we present guidelines as well as some activities for developing certain skills. In the last part we present three programmes which provide direct and indirect developing of emergent literacy skills and are implemented on a national level.

Povzetek (ePrints): S pisnim jezikom se otrok srečuje na vsakem koraku v bližnjem in širšem okolju. Predšolsko obdobje imenujemo tudi obdobje porajajoče se pismenosti, s čimer je poudarjen proces spontanega porajanja veščin in znanja. Razvijajo se v okolju s tiskano besedo in razvojno gledano predhodijo formalnemu branju in pisanju. Razvoj pismenosti je v tem obdobju pod izrazitim vplivom okolja, ki ga otroku prvenstveno predstavlja družina. Raziskave potrjujejo povezanost med veščinami, s katerimi otroci vstopijo v šolo, ter njihovo kasnejšo učno uspešnostjo. V diplomskem delu izpostavljamo najpomembnejše elemente porajajoče se pismenosti ter s pomočjo izsledkov raziskav ugotavljamo njihov vpliv na kasnejše branje in pisanje. Najvišjo napovedno vrednost kasnejše uspešnosti branja in pisanja imajo fonološko zavedanje, jezikovne sposobnosti, znanje o tisku ter socialno-ekonomski status družine. S spodbujanjem pismenosti v predšolskem obdobju pripomoremo k lažjemu in kakovostnejšemu učenju branja in pisanja, zato predstavljamo smernice za spodbujanje pismenosti ter primere dejavnosti za razvijanje posameznih veščin. V zadnjem delu izpostavljamo trenutno aktualne programe, ki predvidevajo neposredno in posredno spodbujanje pismenosti v predšolskem obdobju in se izvajajo na državni ravni.
