Use of a dictionary in the 1st and 2nd triad of primary school |
| Sekundarni povzetek: |
Students in elementary school within the Slovene language lessons sistematically develop their lexical competence and the dictionaries could be very helpful by that. This thesis seeks to discover ways in which teachers help students to develop their lexical competence and finds out if the teachers know dictionary manuals for school children, if they teach children how to use dictionaries and what problems the students face by using them. For this purpose a survey was conducted on a sample of 75 teachers from various elementary schools. We found that the teachers mainly use the SSKJ in classes. They do not know Slovenian school dictionaries and that is why they do not use them at the lessons. Teachers explain the unknown words to children mainly during the Slovene lesson and they also believe that the students gain most new words at particular lesson. Besides that we found out that there appear diferences in using lists of unfiamiliar words, ways of explaining word meanings, use of SSKJ and about their needs for school dictionary among teachers with different duraiton of teaching and experiences by teaching in different triads. |
