Comparison of vertical and horizontal systems of constructed wetlands |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
The constructed wetlands (CW) or artificial wetlands with the wastewater treatment as their
primary function are complex systems of water, substrate, plants, animals and
microorganisms (bacteria). In practice there are two general systems in use, the system with
the surface and the system with the subsurface flow, which is further divided into the system
with the horizontal water flow and in the system with the vertical water flow.
Understanding of constructed wetlands functioning is difficult, as a large number of physical,
chemical, and biological processes take place simultaneously and influence each other.
Therefore a number of mathematical models have been developed or are being developed
which can offer invaluable tool for analyzing, studying and improving understanding of the
complex systems such as the constructed wetlands. A design of CW can be based on a number
of models, ranging from very simple ones (rules of thumb and regression equations) to firstorder plug-flow models and more complex dynamic models.
This thesis presents a comparison between the vertical (V-CW) and the horizontal (H-CW)
systems, and the mathematical models, which are most commonly used in practice for the
subsurface water flow CWs, such as the empirical rules, the regression equations and the most
used first-order plug-flow model (k-C* model). |

Povzetek (ePrints): |
Rastlinske čistilne naprave (RČN) ali umetna močvirja s primarno funkcijo čiščenja odpadnih
voda so kompleksni sistemi vode, substrata, rastlin, živali ter mikroorganizmov (bakterij). V
prvega reda cevnega reaktorja (model k-C*). |
