In this graduation thesis are precisely defined concepts of sustainability, sustainable development, sustainable engineering and sustainable building. For the design of sustainable building, Dovjak and Krainer method is used based on four indicators: economic, environmental, social and health, which must be balanced. The method is extended in a fourth step, covering the final stage of assessment and alternative solutions. The method is tested on new buildings of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and the Faculty of Computer Science, University of Ljubljana. This method is used only on micro level, due to the lack of data. An analysis of thermal transmittance, vapor diffusion, thermal stability and surface temperature of structural components and analysis of materials dangerous to health is made. The basic principles for the design of sustainable buildings are: a suitable location and
shape of the building, wood as a material for load-bearing structure, green roofs, natural insulation, suitable windows, daylight controled with shades, a system of mechanical ventilation, use of renewable sources of energy and the use of rainwater. The principles are examined from the four aspects of sustainable building. In designing sustainable buildings in all phases of construction it is
important multi-disciplinary collaboration of all participants, from engineers, builders, architects to
economists, sociologists, sanitary engineers, and health professionals. |
