Learning and teaching english as a foreign language at primary schools in the European union: the comparison between Slovenia and Italy |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
In the theoretical part of my diploma thesis there are presented some main guidelines of the European Union about teaching foreign languages. It is shown, which language is most widely chosen as a first and the second language in the schools among the countries. There are also added some reasons why every country should start teaching foreign languages at the early age and different factors which influence children and their learning. After that I have compared the school systems of Slovenia and Italy, and their curricula.
In the empirical part I have presented my research, which was concluded among the Italian pupils. Italian children were given a Slovenian national test of English with some extra questions about English language that are connected to their knowledge and have shown as very important in the interpretation phase of the results. I have compared those results with the ones for the Slovenian children. In the analysis I had to include also some side factors, which were very important in showing the real picture of the knowledge of Slovenian and Italian pupils. |
