Every year in November we have a »traditional Slovenian breakfast« in our kinder garden. That includes a honey, that is why I used the opportunity for this diploma, to explore the life of bees. I think that it is important for kids to learn more about bees – not only for their usefulness in providing honey and other products to the humans but also to recognise the important role of bees as the pollinators of plants.
Children trough the active learning and their participation in activities were introduced to the role of the bees in tha nature as an ecosystem, they were thought how honey is made and what are all the purposes that honey can be used for.
My diploma is based on reseearch and collecting the childrens ideas that they expressed in our conversations about honey. So through this children get new knowledge abouth bees, learned new words and different aspects of the nature around us.
In the empirical part of my diploma I used the method of closed type of research. I tried to enable children to learn about bees and find their own solutions through active learning. We emphasized how bees are important in nature and try to develop in kids respect and responsability of people in relation to nature.
Children nicely cooperate, helped each other and felt their importance in all these activities that we did. They were very enthusiastic, original and creative in the activities – including planning, researching and collecting ideas for our work.
Teachers need to give even pre-school kids opportunity to explore the problems that are connected to their questions and attempts to understand the world and life. Kids need the experience to be active in constructing the knowledge of their world around them. Also the social skills and interactions among kids and adults are important. |
