Sekundarni naslov: Opinions of preschool teachers and educators of their competences to promote children's speech development
Sekundarni povzetek: Literacy affects all aspects of modern life. It is a basis of learning success for an individual, success at the financial area, and life in general. For a nation, it presents foundation of healthy democracy and development in economy. Therefore, it is understood that it is of essential importance that every nation systematically develops literacy (in the beginning in the early childhood/pre-school period) (Skubic, 2012, str. 154). The diploma thesis with the title Opinions of Pre-school Teachers about Pre-reading and Pre-writing Skills is consisted of theoretical and empirical part. I have defined terms: pre-literacy, teaching to become literate, literacy, developing literacy, beginners' literacy, and transitional literacy. I have been researching in the empirical part opinions of pre-school teachers about developing pre-reading and pre-writing skills. There have 99 female pre-school teachers cooperated in the research and 1 male from the following kindergartens: Kindergarten Zreče, Kindergarten Slovenske Konjice, Kindergarten Dobrna, and Kindergarten Vitanje. The research has shown that most of the pre-school teachers are aware of the meaning of the development of pre-reading and pre-writing skills. Pre-school teachers with higher education give more importance to development of pre-reading and pre-writing skills than pre-school teachers with lower education. I have found out that pre-school teachers think that parents have more important role with pre-reading and pre-writing skills development than kindergarten. It is also important that opinions of pre-school teachers about their ability to develop children's pre-reading and pre-writing skills differ according to their years of working.
