Povzetek

Teoretična izhodišča: V sodobnem svetu uvrščamo bolezni srca in ožilja v sam vrh vzrokov umrljivosti.

Sekundarni naslov: THE OPINIONS OF MEMBERS OF VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF COURSES IN BASIC LIFE SUPPORT
Sekundarni povzetek: Theoretical background: In the modern world, cardiovascular diseases rank among the leading causes of death. Members of volunteer fire brigades (hereinafter: VFB) are in particular exposed to situations involving such causes of death due to environmental effects during individual interventions. The Fire Fighting Association of Slovenia has more than 140,000 voluntary members who represent quite a large proportion of the Slovene population. It can therefore be assumed that to a larger extent they also represent potential in participating in training courses in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), to assess to what extent such knowledge has been useful for the members of fire brigades in concrete situations to date and to compare the presence of fear prior to giving artificial respiration – "mouth-to-mouth" resuscitation – with regard to the lay public. Methods: We used a descriptive working method which referred to the study of domestic and foreign literature and an analytical working method which referred to the results of the survey carried out among the members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade of the Fire-Fighting Association Šmarje pri Jelšah. Results: The survey has revealed that 46% of the respondents are of the opinion that there are far too few CPR courses available, while further 51% of the respondents think that there could be more of these courses organised. In concrete situations 20% of the responding members of the VFB had to use their knowledge of basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the past. 68% of the respondents also think that "mouth-to-mouth" resuscitation does not play a role in the decision whether to help a person who needs cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Conclusion: Training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation for members of VFB is of extreme importance for the improvement of CPR knowledge and practice for a significant share of the Slovene population. Since the guidelines of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) are being upgraded every five years, it would be reasonable to organise courses on cardiopulmonary resuscitation for members of VFB within the same time period.
