magistrsko delo

ǂThe ǂrole of leadership in managers work |

Studying management or leadership has always been an interesting topic to tackle, for on successful management depends the overall success of a particular organisation. It is important to note that due to its complexity the studied topic has not been thoroughly researched so far which, on the other hand, make it even more interesting.
More and more enterprises and organisations are aware of the importance of good leadership being a part of managers’ work. Namely, it is of vital importance for every enterprise to be able to adapt to changing market conditions and to potential customers, which is only possible through efficient leadership and excellent communication at all levels. One of important factors directly affecting successive leadership encompasses values and characteristics of leaders by which they can be recognised by their staff. We wanted to find out how the American and European managers see this particular aspect and which values they associate with effective leaders and team members, as well as if there are any differences between European countries and the United States of America.
The present master work presents results taken from a study researching and comparing the perception of values by the American and European managers who can be considered effective leaders and team members. The results of the research encompass three dimensions: a comparison of notion of values with regards to domination and submissiveness; a comparison of values based on friendly and unfriendly behaviour; and a comparison of values based on acceptance or non-acceptance of established authority.
The research shows that there are differences among all three dimensions, especially between the USA and the European Union. For example, the American managers, contrary to their European peers, are more inclined to respect dominance among team members and much less for leaders which clearly shows looser hierarchic working models in the USA. |
