Sekundarni naslov: THE INFLUENCE OF SWIMMING ON CHILDREN'S MOTOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Sekundarni povzetek: This diploma thesis entitled The Influence of Swimming on the Child's Motor Development aims to determine the percentage and frequency of children engaged in swimming, the reasons for their inclusion into both, organized and spontaneous swimming activities, and find out whether the environment, age or their parents' education play a role in this decision. The theoretical part of this thesis presents the motor development of children, motor abilities and competences, the influences of pre-school swimming activities on the child's motor development as well the possibilities available for including children into such activities at an early age. The statistical data in the empirical part were obtained through a survey conducted among parents whose children are enrolled into nursery schools in Cerklje ob Krki, Leskovec pri Krškem and Kostanjevica na Krki. The questions were related to the frequency of including children in swimming activities and the reasons for swimming. The obtained results analyzed on the basis of age, education and location of the families show that children from rural parts are more frequently involved in swimming activities than those from urban areas. The same rule also applies for children of older as opposed to younger parents. Last but not least, the thesis establishes the main cause for including children into swimming activities, i. e. realizing the importance of exercise on the child's motor development and not an active spending of leisure time as previously thought.
