diplomsko delo

THE ROLE OF PARENTS IN ENGAGING THEIR CHILDREN IN ADDITIONAL SPORTS ACTIVITIES |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
The purpose of the thesis was to determine whether and to what extent parents affect the decision to include their children in extracurricular sports activities. The theoretical part focuses on the development of motor skills in the late preschool and early school age (this age period was the subject of the research) and the role of parents in including their children in extracurricular sports activities. It outlines the factors which, as suggested by other pieces of research, are decisive in terms of whether a child will participate in extracurricular sports activities or not. It also examines whether an environment offering many physical activities has an influence on the decision to include children in extracurricular sports activities. As for the empirical part, it contains the research based on a causal non-experimental method on a sample from a selected population (preschool children from the second age group and children attending the first grade of primary school) using a quantitative technique (a closed-ended survey questionnaire) to obtain data, which was then processed with descriptive statistics. The research results indicated that the majority of parents do sports with their children in their spare time. In addition, approximately one half of the children attend organised sports activities. The main reasons are to develop motor skills and make new friends. The results also reveal that physical activity of parents in their free time, their level of education and the age of their child have an influence on whether their child is involved in extracurricular sports activities. However, household income is not an influencing factor. |
