(diplomsko delo)

Sekundarni povzetek: Body dysmorphia is a serious mental disorder, characterized by one's obsession with his appearance or bodily features, due to his belief of having a deformation. The most common bodily features are skin, hair, nose or weight. These flaws are often imagined or seriously exagerated. Modern society has set certain beauty ideals, which in turn can additionaly lower one's self esteem. Society often stigmatizes mental patients, believing they are dangerous, weird, incapable and act as a burden. This can prevent them to acquire a certain level of education or pursue a desired career and form personal interactions. The purpose of this thesis is to describe dismorphia, a psychiatric disorder, treatment of a patient suffering from it and role of the nurse. We used a descriptive work method in the theoretical part of the thesis, and a qualitative research in the empirical part. Using the results from the interview we were able to conclude, that this disease has a serious impact on the quality of life of a patient and makes him unable to function properly in the society. We have also concluded that the disease can be managed with professional help. Nurses play an important role during patient's treatment, since they spend most of their time by his side.
