(diplomsko delo)

Basic knowledge of CPR among firefighters aged between 6-11 |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
Theoretical foundations: Heart failure outside the hospital environment is one of the most common causes of death. The knowledge of basic life support (BLS) with the use of automatic external defibrillator (AED) by untrained individuals can essentially help to a quality survival of a victim. Many bystander, also children, cannot act appropriately due to the lack of knowledge. Most youth firefighters are trained in social skills from an early age. We want to find out where those youth firefighters have been trained about BLS, we also want to find out wheather they are familiar with the use of AED and we want to assess their knowledge of BLS.
Research methodology: The descriptive method was used during the study of domestic and foreign literature and electronic sources, which was upgraded by interviewing of the youth firefighters of Prebold–Dolenja vas-Marija Reka Stations. All data was computerised and the results we analysed.
Results: Almost half of the interviewed firefighters believe that they could administer basic life support. However, our study showed differently. The fact is that the Slovenian system does not provide this knowledge; it has to be acquired individually.
Conclusion: Basic First Aid education of children in kindergarten and further education on BLS and AED is essential for this knowledge to extend among the population. This knowledge makes children more self-confident and more humane. These skills should necessarily be implemented and continuously revised through the whole educational process from an early age on, as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO). |
