(diplomsko delo)

Sekundarni naslov: SLEEP DISORDER AS A SYMPTOM OF MENTAL ILLNESS
Sekundarni povzetek: Sleep disorders are very common health problem of residents' in social welfare institution and are subsequently connected with a large usage of prescribed drugs for insomnia. The purpose of the diploma work is to introduce the concept of mental health and sleep disorders, and therefore the associated usage of sleeping pills in one of the social institutions in Slovenia. We want to find out the amount of ingested sleeping pills at residents dwelling in the central part of the institution in comparison with the residents dwelling in a dislocated location, and thereby to define the role of nurses. In the empirical part of diploma work, we used a retrospective analysis of the quantitative data obtained from health care documentation in one of the social welfare institution in Slovenia. The results showed that the residents very often reach for sleeping pills. We found that the amount of ingested sleeping pills decrease after moving of resident from the central part of the social welfare institution to a dislocated unit. We also noticed a time lag in the receipt of sleeping pills in the dislocated unit, which shows that the residents have better quality of life and the wider social environment, which positively encouraged them to reduction the prescribed sleeping pills. Resident’s motivation in caring for their own health and well-being help them to eliminate insomnia. The nurse observes the resident not only before but also during sleep, so that they can exclude all the objective problems of insomnia. When setting up a normal rhythm of sleeping and the sleep quality, the satisfaction is on the both sides - by nurse and the resident. After all, rested resident has positive impact on the environment and improve the quality of daily activity, because it is a more positive oriented to all.
