[magistrsko delo]

Predatory behaviour of two antlion speices in different conditions |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
In this master thesis we studied the behavioural plasticity of larvae in two different species of antlions (Neuroleon microstenus and Euroleon nostras) and verified the consistency of specific behaviours in individuals. We discovered that in N. microstenus larvae both behavioural patterns of removing prey remains were used with about the same frequency. We studied the behavioural plasticity in individual N. microstenus larvae and discovered that behavioural patterns in specific circumstances such as application of visual stimuli, smaller granulation of the substrate and smaller prey size, vary from the behaviours observed in the control group. In N. microstenus we recorded 12 behavioural patterns which varied in frequency when different circumstances occurred, thus pointing to the presence of behavioural plasticity in the species. In E. nostras larvae 9 different behavioural patterns were recorded which were also represented with variable frequency depending on which circumstances occurred (control group, visual stimuli, and vibrational stimuli). Additionaly, two newly described behavioural patterns were recorded - quiescence during stimuli and the preparation of the ambush position. The average feeding time of the larvae was shortest in the control group and was prolonged with the application of visual stimuli and the change in substrate granulation. Our research did not confirm the theory that smaller prey has an effect on the duration of the feeding. Statistical analysis results did not point to significant differences. |
