Abstract

Secondary title: Language-independent computer simulations of biological laboratory exercises
Secondary abstract: The purpose of the article is to present the problem of accessibility of multimedia to users that have limited knowledge of foreign language (in most cases English). The Internet offers a wide variety of different didactical tools that cannot be used, if the knowledge of a language is not sufficient enough. The problem could be solved in two ways: a) creation of pictures, because they are not bound to language, b) creation of materials that can be easily translated to other language. On Faculty of natural sciences and mathematics we developed interactive computer simulations of biological laboratory exercises that were added a link for translation to a chosen foreign language. The simulations Electrolyte Diffusion and Mealworm Respiration are presented in this article and can be used by minorities in Slovenia as well as by anybody else.
