Abstract

Secondary title: The system of remuneration in the Bank X
Secondary abstract: The MA thesis examines the importance of bonuses for employees. Bonuses are seen by employees as an acknowledgment of good job performance, providing motivation for future work. Only a well-designed system of wages and bonuses can lead to desired results and encourage employees to contribute more substantially towards achieving company goals. The right types of bonuses need to be determined based on staffing and work atmosphere within a company. An important role is assumed by managers making decisions regarding bonuses, who, by distributing bonuses fairly, contribute to better work relations and a more positive work atmosphere. The thesis consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part presents basic concepts related to employee bonuses, the process of designing a system of bonuses, types of bonuses, and the impact of bonuses on job performance and motivation. For the empirical part, the system of bonuses in Banka X is examined using a questionnaire. A total of six hypotheses are proposed and either confirmed or rejected by means of statistical analysis. Research findings indicate that the system of bonuses in Banka X requires a thorough revision. A simplification of the system has been proposed, increasing its transparency for individual employees. A separate ratio between fixed and variable remuneration is required for marketing employees and bank clerks as opposed to the ratio valid for other employees. In addition, new criteria for awarding bonuses, as well as new forms of intangible rewards, need to be introduced. Above else, the new system needs to be fair, transparent and equal for all employees regardless of the nature of their work.
