Abstract

Pridobljeni podatki so bili obdelani s pomočjo deskriptivne in inferenčne statistike s statističnim programom SPSS 21.

Secondary title: A proposal model for patient education after a stroke before discharge from hospital
Secondary abstract: Introduction: The stroke is one of the leading causes of death all over the world. It is also the most important factor in the onset of permanent physical and cognitive impairment. Rehabilitation of the patient and integration of the patient into the social and social environment is a lengthy process that requires a lot of effort and patience for both the patient and his relatives. After completing the hospitalization, many questions and problems arise upon returning home. The purpose of the study itself is to introduce a patient education program after suffering a stroke before being discharged from a hospital in order to maintain a quality patient's life in the home environment. Methods: A quantitative methodology was used. A structured survey questionnaire was used as a data collection instrument. The survey included 100 health professionals from the Department of Internal Medicine in one of the regional Slovenian hospitals. The data obtained were processed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the statistical program SPSS 21. Results: The results of the study show that employees are educating patients after having a stroke, but they are inadequate. Most respondents agree (85%) that constant awareness education and training of patients contributes to better treatment of patients, and that the nurse is the first to recognize the moment when the patient is capable and motivated to learn (87.5%). Only 20% of respondents actively participate in the education itself, and only 33.8% of respondents sometimes carry out the evaluation of the needs for life activity activities prior to dismissal. Discussion and conclusion: By continually educating the patient and his relatives, providing professional information for a healthy lifestyle and providing accessible and high-quality healthcare at all levels of healthcare activity, we can significantly contribute to better outcomes and improve the quality of life of patients after having a stroke.
