Abstract

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂanalysis of the swimming course for younger children regarding their sex and fear of water
Secondary abstract: The aim of the thesis has been to find out if there are differences in the progress of the knowledge of swimming between boys and girls and which sex expresses greater fear of water on the first day of the swimming course. A causal non-experimental research method was used. The data were collected with the help of a quantitative data collection method using a structured observation. The children were assessed on the first, intermediate and final day of the swimming course. The assessment scale consisted of six phases of adaptation to water which should be mastered before a child can start learning various swimming techniques. Preschool children from Anice Černejeve Kindergarten in Celje were included in the sample. 21 children participated in the research. The observation and assessment took place in Golovec Indoor Swimming Pool in Celje in November 2018. On the basis of the collected data it was found out that fear of water had a negative impact on the progress of swimming: the children whose fear of water was greater on the first day of the swimming course made a slower progress during the swimming course than the children who showed no fear of water on the first day of the swimming course. Furthermore, all the children, both the boys and the girls, adapted to water, but the boys were slightly quicker at adapting to water than the girls.
